From the time I was around 8 years old, my passion for fashion began, and at the age of 13, I set a goal to have my own boutique one day. Throughout my teenage years, sewing my own clothing was my hobby and combined with my love of shopping, fashion consulting was the obvious career choice. However, I was not confident of my decision and was briefly lured into a 9 to 5 office job as an administrative assistant. I quickly realized that working for someone else would never make me happy. I started my business on a part-time basis and wrote myself a note: ‘I have a goal to open a boutique by the year 1990.’
I learned early on that I have a special talent for recognising the unique characteristics of individuals and translating that into a personal brand. Over the years, I have dressed entertainers, community leaders, high-profile business owners, wedding parties, and people re-entering the workforce. My expertise has been sought by community groups and professional business organizations who have asked me to speak at their meetings. I have earned the trust of my repeat clients, and my business has grown based on my reputation. Styling wardrobes connects me with very important events in my clients’ lives and gives me a great sense of purpose.
A few years ago, when I found the note I had written, I realized I had achieved my goal one year earlier than planned! It’s been over thirty years, and I’m still ‘living my dream...and loving it!’
“The major pieces in your wardrobe should be custom made. Over the years, I have had Kathy make coats, jackets, suits, and pants. Every year I get one or two custom pieces. I find that you really save money because these clothes last and last. This is where you get your classic pieces.
The Ready Fashions service is great for women who find custom items beyond their pocketbook. Kathy uses her talent to help clients look their best and feel great. Since Kathy does all the ordering and alterations, you save time too!
The Dressings’s gift service not only saves me time but is a blessing. Being visually impaired, shopping can be a difficult task. I can call Kathy, and we do gift shopping for my family and close friends. We do this over the phone, or I spend the day at her shop. She wraps everything up in ways that I can't. This service is wonderful for the unique gifts you can find at various prices.” -Vickie M.
“A note of thanks to you for the beautiful presentation at the Guelph After 5 Meeting. All was very professionally done.” -Ila W.
“Many, many thanks for helping to make Sean and Karen's wedding day so special. Karen was a gloriously radiant bride in the dress you designed, and Sean's reaction when he first saw her was everything a romantic soul could wish for!
Your participation took the occasion beyond their original expectations and helped make it a truly wonderful experience.” -Kath B.
